Hola, Kumasta, and hi! We’re Angel & Angelica.
We are two besties born and raised in Huchiun Ohlone land, aka the East Bay Area, the place where we were born and raised by our immigrant parents.
We met after college through a love of music and travel, got pregnant around the same time, and found ourselves struggling with the same thing – how to travel with kids.
We scoured the internet only to find blogs and websites designed and written by people who didn’t look like us. Where were all my black and brown family bloggers? I know they are traveling too!
In our frustration, we joked about having our own website to share our travel experiences, with our own values and perspectives, with the world.
As we took our kids on trips around the world, we soon became the sources for tips and itineraries for our friends.
The websites we found just didn’t have the perspectives or values we took into consideration when planning our trips – such as supporting BIPOC and local businesses, recognizing the history of places visited and acknowledging Indigenous experiences, and just being good global citizens when we travel.
So, we launched our own website!
Beautiful Brown Adventures is a place for us to share our travels, reflect on raising global citizens, and be in community with all of you.
We hope we can get you the information you need to get your beautiful brown family ready to explore the world with intention. Thanks for joining us on this adventure.
Our Journey Through Time
Fun Facts
Kumusta sa tanan! My name is Angelica (aka Jelly, she/her) and I love to adventure and learn about as much of the world as I possibly can. I enjoy putting together itineraries and especially trying to make trips as inclusive as possible.
So after my little person arrived in 2017, I became (sort of?) excited about the new challenges that we’d experience traveling as a family of three. How could I still maintain some semblance of my former travel lifestyle while also being attuned to my family’s needs?
I can’t say I always get it right, but I do know that we’ve had a lot of fun with the twists and turns that go along with our new travel configuration. It’s about the journey, right? Thanks for joining us on ours!
Fun Facts
Greetings fellow travelers! My name is Angelina (aka Angel, she/her/hers) and I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I am a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde (klahowya!) and a daughter of a Puerto Rican New Yorker (hola!).
As a mixed-race woman of color I have sometimes struggled with where I fit in but always found peace while traveling.
I want to see more families like ours traveling the world, sharing stories, and making memories together. I truly believe that travel helps shape kinder, more empathetic, and – if done with intention – antiracist kids. Let’s do this!
We also know how impactful those experiences are to strengthen family bonds, learn about history and the world around us, and increase empathy and understanding.
We have traveled the world with our families, and through trail and error, we have learned a lot about bringing our beautiful brown babies to new spaces. Beautiful Brown Adventures is the place where we share:
and the collective liberation of impressed people everywhere
of historically marginalized communities, namely, people of the global majority, need to be expressed and shared more widely across our white-dominated world
When done with intention, travel has the power to nourish our souls and helps us and our children become more resilient and well-rounded human beings
to allow our world to exist at least seven generations from now. This is the responsibility of individuals and those who wield the most power and resources, such as political leaders, corporations, and the wealthy
and how we spend our money have an effect on the community we are visiting, the environment we are in, and on our families
to effect change, help us heal ourselves, share resources, and guide future generations
The future of Beautiful Brown Adventures is bright and well, beautiful! We have so many ideas and can’t wait to share some new things with all of you.
Add a “History Corner” to all of our blogs with helpful info on a destination’s history, its original peoples, BIPOC history in that area, and how you can learn more.
Write more gear reviews so you can learn from our first hand experience about what works and what definitely does not.
We have found that videos have often been most helpful when planning big trips to new places. Sharing the videos we find with our kids before a trip can also help prepare our children, so they know what to expect when trying something new. We hope to explore a vlog option in the near future – just need to learn how to make awesome videos!
Beautiful Brown Adventures is here to support your family on your journey from your living room to the wilderness.
